SEPAT Oil Field Facilities Scale Model
Topology Optimized Drone Prototype
We took on a significant project for PETRONAS, Malaysia's leading oil and gas producers where our focus was on optimizing the design and 3D printing the model of a complex oil field facility known as SEPAT.
The objective was to provide a scalable visual representation that would foster improved collaboration among various stakeholders and cross-functional partners. Overcoming the challenge of multiple moving parts, we demonstrated exceptional speed and accuracy in executing this intricate design.
Notably, our expertise extended to optimizing the complex and detailed model specifically for additive manufacturing, a critical aspect that set this project apart.
We collaborated with one of our SME clients specializing in drone design and manufacturing, where their objective was to create a versatile drone capable of deployment across various industries.
One challenge emerged during development - the initial structures lacked the necessary durability. It was therefore imperative to enhance the drone's tensile strength without compromising its overall performance. However, due to the free forms that naturally occur with topology optimized design, adding wall thickness or additional support to the structure is a proven design challenge at STL-level-editing.
Given this requirement, we leveraged on our design capability with a sophisticated software dedicated for Additive Manufacturing to fine-tune the design for manufacturability, and 3D printed this prototype as a crucial step in the decision-making and testing phase of the product development.
